Graduate Research Opportunities

Graduate students in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) have the opportunity to engage in impactful research experiences under the guidance of faculty mentors. These experiences allow students to deepen their expertise in AI and related fields while strengthening essential skills in critical thinking, technical writing, and analytical problem-solving.

Research involvement is a key component of the graduate experience and provides a pathway to contribute to ongoing projects that address real-world challenges across engineering and artificial intelligence domains.

Students interested in research are encouraged to explore faculty expertise and initiate direct contact with potential advisors.

How to Get Involved in Research

Students can pursue graduate research in collaboration with a faculty member in one of the following ways:

  • Volunteer Research (0-Credit Enrollment).
Students may register for Graduate Student Research for zero credits. This option allows participation in research without additional tuition or fees, provided the student is enrolled in other coursework.
  • Paid Research Appointment (OPS or RA).
Students may be hired as an OPS employee or Research Assistant (RA), typically receiving a stipend while working under the supervision of a faculty mentor on funded research projects.
